Why are functors interesting? One possible answer is that functors allow you to translate results (which can be phrased in category-theoretical language) about one category to results about another category.
Is Category Theory Practical? - by Senia Sheydvasser
If your language is designed like a category, then there are sorts of theorems you automatically have about its objects.

You can construct a functor from this category to some other kind of category that “evaluates” the meanings of these phrases (that is, if two phrases are close in meaning, the corresponding objects in the category should be “close together” in some sense), which is the semantics category

Here we enter the shatter zone. Hands within hands. Metabolic and metaphorical vectors overlap. Is this confusing? Yes, it is confusing.
Anne Carson · Beware the man whose handwriting sways like a reed in the wind
What I take from this is that the brain has its own handwriting, which depends on a certain protein. I can imagine my poor brain throwing up its hands in dismay to find all the good handwriting protein gone, or in a mess.

Anne Carson · Beware the man whose handwriting sways like a reed in the wind
In its badness my chaotic handwriting seems to reveal something about me that I’d rather not look at. It carries what Gerard Manley Hopkins calls ‘the inscape’ out. ‘Beware the man whose handwriting sways like a reed in the wind,’ Confucius said.
Anne Carson · Beware the man whose handwriting sways like a reed in the wind
I think of handwriting as a way to organise thought into shapes.

Understanding is a lively topic for philosophers, but not for the tech industry.
Knowledge Collapse - Boston Review
But what is this understanding? In avoiding circularity we retreat into poetry: “it happens suddenly: one direction becomes more dense, or more luminous,” in the words of mathematician Marie-France Vignéras.

You can greatly increase your value on the job market by acquiring cheap skills in one domain and selling them in another domain where those skills are in short supply and high demand.
Career Advice - Geoff Keeling
Early in my career I spent way too much time following academic trends and not enough time thinking about what was important to work on from a societal point of view.

When generalizing the usages of autopoiesis, developed while studying biological systems, to make it also applicable to social systems, the biology-based theory of autopoiesis should therefore be expanded into a more general theory of self-referential autopoietic systems.
Autopoiesis - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Social and psychic systems are based upon another type of autopoietic organization than living systems: namely on communication and consciousness, respectively, as modes of meaning-based reproduction.

On one hand, the predators in the Dark Internet Forest are the mega-platforms themselves, at the core of which are machines for turning human action and feeling into saleable data objects.

In the exploration frame, you approach the LLM as a medium for thinking. You’re not trying to get answers out; you’re trying to rotate your own understanding, encounter projections you couldn’t generate yourself, iterate toward clarity through dialogue.

Film wasn’t just recorded theater; it enabled montage, the cut as a unit of meaning, entirely new relationships between image and time.

The spatial and symbolic framing of women as subjects in need of protection reinforced the gendered beliefs that women were unfit for and, at best, auxiliaries in the hydroelectric construction industry.
Gendered Space and Labour Control in a Chinese State-Sponsored Hydroelectric Project in Ecuador
Using Lefebvre’s theory of social space, which brings together the materiality and symbolic meanings of space structured by relationships of production and reproduction (see Razack 2018: 119)
Gendered Space and Labour Control in a Chinese State-Sponsored Hydroelectric Project in Ecuador
In analysing spatial politics, Lefebvre identifies three elements in the production of social space—that is, conceived, perceived, and experienced (or lived) space.

The Chudjak was forged in the toxic primordial soup of anonymous imageboards, quickly mutating into two dominant species. One is the accelerationist variant, captioned with the nihilistic slogan: “The West Has Fallen. Billions Must Die.”
From 4chan to Xiaohongshu: How "Chudjak" Became the Face of Chinese Gen Z Despair
The competition is just as rigid, but the payoff has became uncertain. And this uncertainty is breeding a cynical gloom, which further breeds school-maxxing influencers like Zhang and some very high-quality, very dark memes.
From 4chan to Xiaohongshu: How "Chudjak" Became the Face of Chinese Gen Z Despair
Zhang’s method was essentially a caste calculator. He looked at four variables: gender, hukou (urban or rural), household income, and scores.

The Radical Legacy of N.H. Pritchard’s Concrete Poetry | Frieze
One might argue that Pritchard’s marginality follows from his supposedly quieter political intonation, compared to his peers in the Black Arts Movement: language is not marshalled to represent or explicitly call for a revolutionary horizon, rather, language itself is subject to an upheaval.
