when doing something, aim to be the best there ever was at it. This compensates for your natural bias, which is to do something mediocre. You have to really aim to be as good as the greats.
Principles - Nabeel S. QureshiLean into the good kind of fear.
Principles - Nabeel S. QureshiFun is underrated. The best and most creative work comes from a root of joy and excitement. You can feel this in your body.
Principles - Nabeel S. QureshiThink about what makes you ‘imbalanced’ as a personality, & do things where this gives you an edge.
Principles - Nabeel S. QureshiThere is no such thing as an individual. But I think the down-to-earth version feels more true: Every individual is the sum of their relationships.
On Being a Dad - Derek ThompsonIf you set out to describe a person, you do not begin by listing all the things they do alone, when no one is looking. You describe what that person is like in relation to you, or to someone you know.
On Being a Dad - Derek ThompsonWhen you become a parent, you meet your child. And then you meet your child again. And again, every day after that. You will never stop meeting your child. That is one reason to become a parent: To have a child is to fall in love with a thousand beautiful strangers.
On Being a Dad - Derek ThompsonTo be a parent is to be a permanent tourist in a constantly evolving foreign city, which also happens to be your home.
On Being a Dad - Derek ThompsonAllow yourself to be a beginner at something. Try different things, just not at the same time. When we try to do everything at once, it gets overwhelming. Think about what is calling to you right now.
I want to do everything, so I do nothing - by Luisa“I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in my life. And I am horribly limited.”
I want to do everything, so I do nothing - by LuisaYour resilience is not a flaw; it’s the evidence of your becoming. Even if you’re not where you hoped to be yet, the fact that you’re still here means you’re already doing something right.
in order to love who you are, you must not hate the experience that shaped you.And maybe, just maybe, that’s the paradox of life: to heal, you must hurt; to love fully, you must break open; to find peace, you must first meet chaos.
in order to love who you are, you must not hate the experience that shaped you.To make space for wonder, to nurture attention, to honor the small miracles that populate your days. It is work, yes, but it is also tenderness.
How to Fall in Love with Your Life - by peoples archiveawe is not something to chase; it’s something to cultivate
How to Fall in Love with Your Life - by peoples archive. The ache you feel when life moves too quickly, when you can’t keep track of days and months and years, is a reminder that you are aware, that you care, that you are still paying attention.
How to Fall in Love with Your Life - by peoples archiveIt’s patient work, rooted in noticing the ordinary and finding something meaningful hidden inside it. It begins with the tiniest gestures: the smell of coffee as it steams in the morning, the way sunlight moves across your bedroom floor, the distant hum of traffic, or the wind brushing past trees.
How to Fall in Love with Your Life - by peoples archiveshow the inside of your head in public, so people can see if they would like to live in there.
Looking for Alice - by Henrik Karlsson - Escaping FlatlandYou can learn a lot by observing how people hang out with their friends.
Looking for Alice - by Henrik Karlsson - Escaping Flatlandince point clouds do not contain semantic information, relying solely on LiDAR-based SLAM algorithms is insufficient to assess structural damage. A common solution is combining optical cameras that collect RGB images
Deep learning-enhanced smart ground robotic system for automated structural damage inspection and mapping - ScienceDirectA self-attention-enhanced YOLOv7 algorithm is proposed for accurate damage segmentation with limited datasets, while an enhanced KISS-ICP (Keep It Small and Simple-Iterative Closest Point) algorithm is developed to optimize point cloud odometry for efficient mapping and localization.
Deep learning-enhanced smart ground robotic system for automated structural damage inspection and mapping - ScienceDirectThe presence of haze, dust, or water could lower the performance of camera or LiDAR systems
Survey of robotics technologies for civil infrastructure inspection - ScienceDirectdata compression and transmission techniques for faster and more robust data transfer from wireless robots over the Internet or local area network [253,254,255]. Li and Zhang [256] combined the Internet of Things (IoT) with robotics for wirelessly collecting data
Robots in Inspection and Monitoring of Buildings and Infrastructure: A Systematic ReviewRequirements for the safe use of robots on construction sites are not well-explored
Robots in Inspection and Monitoring of Buildings and Infrastructure: A Systematic Reviewcombined data from a ground-penetrating RADAR, thermal IR camera, LIDAR, GPS, and accelerometer into a long short-term memory neural network for detecting road defects. Combining and processing the data from different types of sensors, such as positioning sensors (GPS, IMU), visual sensors (camera), and non-visual sensors (RADAR, thermal camera) can provide more in-depth inspection in a shorter time
Robots in Inspection and Monitoring of Buildings and Infrastructure: A Systematic Reviewmathematical transformations for stitching multiple images across a single site to create a panoramic view of the project has been developed for inspection
Robots in Inspection and Monitoring of Buildings and Infrastructure: A Systematic ReviewLaplacian of Gaussian algorithm, are used to detect cracks on walls [225,226] but do not require training data.
Robots in Inspection and Monitoring of Buildings and Infrastructure: A Systematic ReviewThe results are promising, which could be further improved with a larger dataset. Alipour and Harris [220] used a publicly available dataset of forty thousand images to train a deep-learning model to identify cracks on concrete and asphalt surfaces. They achieved an F1-score of up to 99.1%, which is a measure of how well a classifier function performs
Robots in Inspection and Monitoring of Buildings and Infrastructure: A Systematic ReviewComputer vision has been used to automatically identify building components (e.g., drywall) from 2D images and update the progress information in an Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)-based 4D Building Information Model (BIM) [169]. Such algorithms used in conjunction with autonomously navigating robotic systems [180,181] driven by BIMs automate a significant part of progress monitoring, thereby reducing human effort.
Robots in Inspection and Monitoring of Buildings and Infrastructure: A Systematic ReviewAdditionally, safety is an important issue that can benefit from more frequent monitoring. One of the leading causes of accidents on construction sites is falls [197]. Implementing site-wide fall protection practices has been found inadequate to prevent falls; instead, continuous monitoring is important for preventing fall accidents

Gemini Robotics brings AI into the physical world - Google DeepMindGemini Robotics-ER can be interfaced with these ‘low-level’ safety-critical controllers, specific to each particular embodiment. Building on Gemini’s core safety features, we enable Gemini Robotics-ER models to understand whether or not a potential action is safe to perform in a given context, and to generate appropriate responses.
Gemini Robotics brings AI into the physical world - Google DeepMindthey have to be general, meaning they’re able to adapt to different situations; they have to be interactive, meaning they can understand and respond quickly to instructions or changes in their environment; and they have to be dexterous

Gemini Robotics brings AI into the physical world - Google DeepMindIn an interesting twist, people who were more in shape actually tended to have smaller social networks—perhaps because exercising ate up the time they’d instead spend with their friends.
Friends Are Better Than Morphine | TIMEPeople with more friends were able to sit there for longer, and that’s likely because their endorphin activity was stronger, the researchers think.

MobileNetV2 Explained | Papers With CodeThe formula uses many factors, including: weather conditions, debt level (the difference between debt accumulated and ability to pay), time since Christmas, time since New Year's resolutions have been broken, low motivational levels, and the feeling of a need to take action. The 2005 press release[7] and a 2009 press release: [ 𝑊 + ( 𝐷 − 𝑑 ) ] × 𝑇 𝑄 𝑀 × 𝑁 𝑎 where W = weather, D = debt, d = monthly salary, T = time since Christmas, Q = time since the failure of new year's resolutions, M = low motivational levels, and Na = the feeling of a need to take action.
Blue Monday (date)The growing consensus now is that game-engine renderers can model cameras well enough not only to test a perception system in simulation, but even to train perception systems in simulation and expect them to work in the real world!
