The CORE Performance Team Battles the Heat of Kona

The IRONMAN World Championships in Kona regularly produce some of the hottest data sets we see out of the CORE Performance Team each year, and 2026 was no different. Kona's combination of heat and humidity presents a unique challenge to thermoregulation. While the body relies on sweat to stay cool, sweating alone does not lower body temperature. Cooling occurs when sweat evaporates from the skin. In Kona's humid environment, where humidity often exceeds 80%, evaporation becomes less effective, making it harder for athletes to dissipate heat and maintain thermal balance.
