T: hey do you wanna write a blog post together? I just read this blog about this tech startup bro from SF moving to Provo, Utah, aka the most conservative town in the country. I remember you talked about wanting to befriend your neighbor. Wanna write something more about that? S: yeah. about what? T: social circle that we wanna have. or what sort of “bubbles” you want to be in? S: ah, I have a data science way to think about this. so there are a few variables I want to maximize diversity on: age, demographic (race, social income, origin), and interest. ideally, you want a diverse pool, and I think those variables are the best PCA, or variables explaining the highest variability in high-dimensional space. oh, and also diversity in the nature of the relationship. like being mentees to some and mentors to others. and have neighbors whose only point of connection is dogs. and a handstand teacher who knows my fitness goals and all my injuries that stand in their way.
